The TEDx challenge

Starter...

Watch the Tedtalks below. What are the key characteristics of the talks...what makes them good?

Task 1: Use the Tedtalks website.

On the right hand side of the tedtalks webpage there are ways of filtering to different types of tedtalks and talks of different lengths.

Based on the TED Talks you’ve watched, what was the most inspiring or most interesting?

  1. Give the name of the speaker and title of the talk.
  2. Give the actual link to the TED video page of that talk.
  3. Explain in 5+ sentences why this video was so inspiring or interesting to you.
  4. Explain in 3+ more sentences why someone else should watch this talk.

Answer the four questions on your blog and be prepared to talk about the Tedtalk you chose.

Task 2...

Picture
Your task is to produce a one minute TEDtalk on any topic of your choice...however, when choosing a topic consider the following:

  • Pick an idea you are madly curious about, want to learn more about, and/or want to share with the world. The topic can be something that you’ve experienced, heard about, read/watched, or have simply been wanting to learn more about over time.
  • Focus on ‘one story’ (if possible) to center your overall Talk, although you certainly can expand beyond that. Be factual but also help your audience emotionally care about the subject.
  • Try to imagine being in the audience listening to your own Talk: What will interest you? What will inspire you? What will move you to ‘act’ or want to learn more?
  • Practice the timing of your Talk.
  • Each Talk must last between 1 and 2 minutes
  • Create a maximum 5-10 PPt / Keynote slides, select visuals (images, text, or images+text) that create a connection to specific points in the Talk. Avoid bullet points and adding too much text to a single PPt / Keynote slide. Make sure that all images are given proper credit. It is better to use your own images (or at least to make sure the images you find on the Internet/etc are allowed to be used by you).
